Hydrocortisone is used to treat a variety of skin conditions (e.g., insect bites, poison oak/ivy, eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash, itching). Hydrocortisone is a mild corticosteroid.
Hydrocortisone reduces the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in skin conditions.
Hydrocortisone is applied in the form of cream on the affected area of the skin only.
• Stinging • Burning • Irritation • Dryness • Redness at the application site • Acne • Unusual hair growth. "Hair bumps" (folliculitis), skin thinning/discoloration, or stretch marks may also occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
If your child has been diagnosed with or is experiencing diabetes, low thyroid levels, or fungal infection, they should not take Hydrocortisone unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor.
