Amoxicillin is a penicillin-based antibiotic drug taken in capsule form used for a range of infections. It's often taken in doses of 500 mg every 12 hours, or 250 mg every 8 hours, and works by preventing the growth and spread of bacteria.

Amoxicillin can often be used to treat bacterial infections, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, ear infections, stomach ulcers, skin rash, lower respiratory tract infections, genitourinary tract infections, h pylori infection, and e coli.
It is typically prescribed in tandem with other medications for better results.
In most cases, your children will take amoxicillin orally in a 250 mg or 500 mg capsule, and sometimes 125 mg for kids. Your child should never chew or break an amoxicillin capsule (unless prescribed chewable tablets) – if your kid finds it difficult to swallow tablets, amoxicillin is offered in liquid form, or can be taken with food or water. Depending on your children’s condition, your doctor will direct for the medication to be taken with or without food, around two to three times a day.
In some cases, amoxicillin is also provided as an injection – although this is usually done in hospitals.
Parents should watch out for any vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea that their children may experience after taking the drug. In rare cases, the medicine can cause a reaction to lead to rashes, allergic reaction, itchiness, or dizziness but this is usually only in patients who are allergic. Liquid amoxicillin will also stain teeth so make sure you brush your teeth as well while on it!
For doctors to prescribe an antibiotic like Amoxicillin to people with less severe infections they must first determine that its benefits outweigh the risk of side effects. Most people do not have noteworthy side effects from using antibiotics.
