Not all skin abnormalities are symptoms of skin conditions; however, parents should look out for these signs on their children:
Rashes (may be painful or itchy)
Cracked or dry skin
Patches of discoloration
Red or white spots/bumps

If your child is dealing with a common skin condition such as mild acne or dandruff, see a pediatrician for medical advice. Your child's pediatrician will be able to carry out examinations to determine the cause of the condition. In addition, your pediatrician can suggest treatment/medication to help with your child's skin condition. Along with the initial consultation, your pediatrician will be able to schedule follow-up appointments to further evaluate and care for your child's skin condition.
If your child is dealing with a skin condition that affects a significant area of the body, set up an appointment with a dermatologist for medical care. If you have already consulted your child's pediatrician, they may be able to refer you to a dermatologist. Dermatologists will be able to provide a fast diagnosis and treatment of your child's skin condition, as well as prevent scars. Ignoring early signs of skin issues in children or delaying treatment can cause lasting damage to the skin.
