Why should my child see a Dietitian or Nutritionist?
Pediatric Dietitians and Nutritionists are able to help provide your child with the support they need regardless of their eating habits. Having healthy eating habits is crucial to your child's physical and mental growth, and a Dietitian and/or Nutritionist is able to give personalized nutrition advice based on your child's unique case. This advice ranges from learning how to manage a specialized diet to helping your child create a healthy relationship with food as well as their bodies.
Dietitians and Nutritionists - how are they different?
Dietitians and Nutritionists are very closely linked - the main difference between the two is related to the type of training and certifications each have.
The title of dietitian is currently protected by law in all provinces and territories across Canada. What this means is that all dietitians must go through specific training and hold certain certifications in order to offer services under the Registered Dietitian (RD or DtP) title.
On the other hand, the title of nutritionist is currently protected in the provinces of Quebec, Alberta, and Nova Scotia. All dietitians are considered nutritionists; not all nutritionists are considered dietitians.
